Seoul Cafe Review: Standard Bread in Seongsu
This beautifully aesthetic cafe is the perfect place to spend precious times with friends
Standard Bread is a cafe set amidst the incessant busyness of Seongsu, offering a rustic (and delicious) retreat from the standard cafe experience in Seoul. As you’re walking toward the cafe, your first sighting may be that of a giant, smiling slice of bread welcoming you to your new favorite brunch spot.
As you enter, the beautiful courtyard boasts wood and stone work accented by a dainty bridge stretching across a pool of blue water.

This cafe, which just opened its doors in the last week or so, was incredibly busy. Cafe lovers, like me, were all hoping for their first taste of the treats that were tantalizingly advertised by this location. When you walk inside, you are immediately met by a medley of sights and sounds that nearly overwhelm your senses (in the best way possible, of course).

The first sight to meet my eyes was a counter adorned with multiple flavors and sizes of the most delicious looking bread that I have ever seen. Plain bread, salt bread, sweet bread, and more were sitting, fresh out of the oven. Before I even had a chance fully take in the bread, my eyes were pulled to the array of French toast, all of different flavors, some even almost bizarre in their description.
My friend, who came to experience this new cafe with me, and I decided to share the Tiramisu French toast after debating which one looked the most delicious out of all the amazing options.
After ordering our French toast and a loaf of the bread, we headed to our table in the corner, where we enjoyed our drinks while waiting for the food to finish baking. The berry milk I ordered came as plain milk with a little jar of berry preserves. To prepare the drink, I poured the preserves into the milk and stirred it together with a tiny whisk.

The result? Absolutely delicious!
Once our buzzer started sounding the alarm that our French toast was ready, I walked to the counter to see the chef putting the final touches on the toast. As he placed the mini cast iron skillet on the tray, he poured the Tiramisu flavoring over the warm bread, causing the mix to bubble and cook into the already scrumptious toast.

After taking photos of our food (phone eats first), we finally got to dig in. The French toast was light and full of the sweetest flavors. The sugary glaze on the top perfectly complemented the buttery mix that had been poured into the skillet.
Not only did this cafe offer an intimate and autumn-style atmosphere, it was the perfect place to catch up with a friend and have encouraging and sweet conversations over delicious food.
If you and your friends are looking for THE brunch spot for your fall girl’s date, look no further than the delicious and rustic Standard Bread.
